About NATRA Blog

This page is meant for folks to post their thoughts on the Saturday group run. I (Neil) will post a blurb about who showed up and where it was held. From there, I hope that other runners will share their thoughts since we often have different experiences on the same run. Enjoy!

Soulstice Blog

The 10th running of Soulstice is history. What a race! If you are interested in making suggestions about the forthcoming lottery, please do so here. If you have thoughts or stories about Soulstice, please share here too! How did this race compare to previous year's races? Any special race day preparations? Cheers to all finishers and we will hopefully see you at a group run soon!

  1. What a FABULOUS DAY!! Beautiful weather, people and course. Neil, I congratulate you and all who helped make the 10th annual Soulstice a Huge success...I also thank you for not turning SOulstice into an "elite" race and for continuing to allow the novice an opprotunity to race with fellow lovers of the trail race. It is a great challenge for us all... I hope you will reconsider the "lottery" registration for upcoming races, beause those of us who have enjoyed and participated in Soulstice race over the past 10 years would surely be heartbroken if we aren't able to compete next year! Personally, I look forward to this every year.
    Thanks again!

  2. That was a beautiful day at the races. All it needed was a bit of a breeze or a torrential downpour to make it perfect! This is the highlight of my running year every year, and, for some reason, I never run that trail except for on the Soulstice. Can you explain why a lottery would be a better way to run the signup for the race? I have never directed a race so don't know the logistics. My vote would go with what is easiest for you.

  3. The lottery is only a concept at this point. Last April on-line registration proved to be a hassle for me when we sold out in 40 hours for the 200 spots. There were errors which I had to correct, refund and it was a complete pain. The easiest registrations were the old fashioned mail ins.

My thinking is that everyone mails their entries to me by April 1. If this is the scenario, I will likely give preference to runners who have regularly supported Soulstice. There will be opportunities to fundraise for Big Brothers Big Sisters to gain automatic entry as well. I am of course open to ideas so send them along!

  4. Neil, I like your idea of the mail in scenario. Even though it was sold out, it appeared that there were 30 slots that weren't used on race day. That's a bummer for the folks that really wanted in but didn't get in. Soulstice raceday is great. No need to change a thing. I like that carpooling is encouraged. The sponsors are great. It's a true Flagstaff race. Can't wait til next year.
